In industrial environment monitoring, HVAC, warehousing & logistics, agricultural greenhouses and other scenarios, RS485 temperature and humidity probes are the preferred choice thanks to their long-distance transmission and multi-node networking capabilities. Faced with products featuring diverse parameters on the market, how to make an accurate selection? Taking a typical industrial-grade IP65 wall-mounted RS485 Temperature and Humidity Transmitter as an example, this article explains the key selection criteria from four core dimensions.
This probe is equipped with a standard RS485 interface and supports the ModBus RTU protocol. Its maximum communication distance reaches 2000 meters, and up to 32 devices can be connected to the bus with addresses configurable from 1 to 254.
Compared with analog output (4~20mA / 0~10V), the RS485 signal delivers stronger anti-interference performance and outputs digital temperature and humidity values directly without additional ADC conversion. During selection, please confirm whether the main controller (PLC, industrial computer, single-chip microcomputer) is compatible with ModBus RTU. The default baud rate is 9600bps, with optional rates ranging from 2400bps to 115200bps. The communication parameters are set as 8 data bits, no parity check and 1 stop bit.

The specifications are as follows:
· Temperature range: -40 ~ +80℃, accuracy: ±0.3℃
· Humidity range: 0 ~ 99.9%RH, typical accuracy: ±2%RH
· Long-term stability: Humidity drift ≤ 1%RH per year; Temperature drift ≤ 0.1℃ per year
This accuracy fully meets the requirements for conventional environments such as computer rooms, warehouses and greenhouses. For pharmaceutical clean rooms or laboratories, please verify if the ±2%RH accuracy satisfies your standards. If higher precision (e.g. ±1.5%RH) is required, please select high-end models instead.
Response time is also a key indicator: Humidity response time ≤ 8s (at wind speed of 1m/s); Temperature response time ≤ 25s (at wind speed of 1m/s). It is applicable to scenarios without drastic environmental changes.
The probe features a wide voltage power supply of DC 5~28V and can work directly with 24VDC power. Its low power consumption makes it ideal for long-distance wiring.
Adopting a wall-mounted waterproof housing, it achieves an IP65 protection rating, which provides excellent resistance to rain, snow and dust while maintaining good air permeability. It can be installed in humid or dusty environments including livestock farms, outdoor equipment cabinets and water treatment workshops.
If your site requires a higher protection level such as IP67 submersible grade, this model will not be applicable; otherwise, it is fully competent for general use.

This device adopts a 4-wire connection design: Power Positive (Red/Brown), Power Negative (Black), RS485-A (Yellow), RS485-B (Blue/Green). Wall mounting is supported, and self-tapping screws and expansion tubes are included as accessories.
Notes: Do not reverse the connection of RS485 A and B lines. Ensure no duplicate addresses when multiple devices are connected on the same bus. A 120Ω terminating resistor is recommended at the end of long-distance wiring. In addition, wait for at least 5 minutes after power-on before reading data to ensure stable operation.
If your project requires long-distance digital transmission, IP65 protection, accuracy of ±0.3℃ / ±2%RH, and your main controller supports ModBus RTU, this RS485 temperature and humidity probe is a cost-effective option.
Final reminders: Avoid installing the device in areas with strong air convection, organic solvents or corrosive gas. Perform zero drift calibration on a yearly basis. Custom solutions for higher baud rates (up to 115200bps) or extended measuring ranges are available upon request from the manufacturer.https://www.zonewu.com/en/temperature-and-humidity-probe-sensor.html
